Discover Your
Inner Craftiness
Perhaps you’ve always had an
inclination to create your own greeting cards. Or maybe you’ve
always wanted to make your own peach jam, but don’t know where
to start. Are you looking for a hobby to keep your hands busy
while commuting to work? Or have you always been a bit
interested in old recipes? All of these exciting opportunities
are offered this August at Pickering Museum Village.
Paper Craft (barcode 53543), the
first of a series of adult craft workshops, will be held on
Thursday, August 7, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Museum
Village. Pam Edmonds and Katrina Pyke will teach a variety of
techniques including rubber stamping, dry embossing, quilling,
and paper filigree that you can use at home to create your own
cards and gift tags. All paper and stamping materials will be
supplied, but participants are requested to bring small, sharp,
pointed scissors, and a quilling tool, both of which can be
purchased at a crafting store.
If you have children, bring them
along, and they can participate in the Kids in the Village
Heritage Games and Crafts drop in program that runs concurrently
for children pre-school to 12 years of age. You can play too!
This workshop will be followed by
three more “Adults in the Village” craft workshops, featuring
topics on canning and preserving, crocheting, and hearth baking
in a 1830s kitchen, each on a Thursday in August.
For information on how to
register for this or other great workshops, call the Pickering
Museum Village at 905.683.8401, or the Registration Desk at the
Pickering Recreation Complex. The cost for the workshop is
$20/person.
It’s no wives tale; Pickering
Museum Village is really just 10 minutes from central Pickering,
just off Hwy #7, between Brock Road and Westney Road. Come out
and discover what your community museum has to offer!
