Books are flying off the shelves!
Pickering Public Library sets a new record for monthly
circulation in July
It’s certainly been a busy summer
at the Pickering Public Library, with a record 106,776 items,
including books, DVDs and video games, checked out in July
alone. The Library has put a great effort into expanding its
collection over the past year, including more DVDs, all the
latest bestselling novels and a new collection of video games
for the Playstation 3 and the Wii.
The Library also set new records
at the Petticoat Creek branch, which made an astounding leap to
34,056 items circulated – up from the previous record of 31,389
last year.
According to Cathy Grant,
Director of Public Services, “When we see that the community is
borrowing our materials in record numbers, it is a reaffirmation
that, we’re meeting our public’s needs. We are delighted that
the Library is valued by the community, but we are not content
to rest on our current success and will continue to respond to
the changing needs of our dynamic community”.
In addition to the record
circulation, the Library has been packed this summer with
activities for all ages, including puppeteering and wacky
science experiments for the kids and eco-friendly workshops
where teens can make their own natural cosmetics or recycled
paper. It doesn’t stop there, though. The Summer Reading Club
continues to run until August 23rd, so don’t miss your chance to
join in the fun!
