See the scarlet flash of a
cardinal’s wing against the deep blue of a summer sky, listen to
the soft gurgle of the waters of Duffins Creek, inhale the heady
aroma of mint and thyme, savour the sweetness of blackberrries
and fall apples on the tongue and the satisfying feel of rich
soil crumbling through your fingers while the sun is warm on
your back…where can you experience all this? Join the heritage
gardening group, Bloomers and Britches, at Pickering Museum
Village! This hardy band of gardeners works in the gardens of
the museum village every Tuesday morning from May till October.
As well as hands-on gardening,
the group researches heritage plants and often goes on outings
to other museums and nurseries. There are two Saturday sessions,
one in May, “Turnover”, and one in October, “Turnunder” when the
members who can’t participate during the week can come out and
lend a hand (and a strong back!).
During the cold winter months,
this group continues to meet as a book club. Bloomers and
Britches is welcomes new members with open arms.
