Formed in September 2007, the Village Singers
began by singing traditional carols for Christmas in the
Village. Starting out as a small group of women, the choir now
has over a dozen members, including tenors and basses, and
enjoys singing in unaccompanied four-part harmony.
The Singers rehearse at the museum village on
Saturdays from 10:00 am to noon, for a few weeks prior to
upcoming performances at museum village events. Besides
Christmas carols, the repertoire includes old-time and
temperance songs, which are used to interpret the Temperance
Movement in Pickering Township at the Brougham Temperance
House.
The Village Singers, led by Gabrielle
Untermann, welcome new members of all ages. While ability to
read music is not mandatory, some choral experience is
desirable.
